Common Conditions

Treating conditions like lower back pain for over 40 years

Listed below are some common conditions that have been successfully treated at Paunicka Chiropractic Clinic:

Low Back Pain

Low back pain can be caused by misalignment to the lumbosacral spine.  Misalignment to this region usually causes inflammation and muscle spasms.  If the misalignment is severe enough, there can even be pain into the legs, commonly known as sciatica.

Chiropractic treatment of low back pain involves correction of the misalignment.  Our doctors will correct the spinal misalignment as well as show you proper techniques for performing daily activities. In addition, specific rehabilitation exercises may be given in order to help strengthen the lower back to prevent re-injury.

Whiplash

Whiplash is very common in car accidents; however it can also occur in other strenuous physical activities. It usually causes neck pain, headaches, and muscle spasms. Radicular pain into the arm and tingling into the fingers may be some other common symptoms.

We treat whiplash by finding where the problem in the cervical spine is. We take and analyze x-rays, explain the misalignment and correct it. Our doctors will also give you beneficial exercises to help strengthen the cervical spine. A cervical pillow may also be recommended to help support the cervical spine and restore the normal cervical curve.

Specific rehabilitation exercises may also be given to help relieve the clinical symptoms associated with whiplash.

Headaches/Migraines

Patients present in our office with occipital or temporal headaches, as well as severe migraine problems. These types of headaches can be caused by misalignment in the upper or lower cervical areas.

Treatment can involve scoping of the cervical spine and use of motion palpation to find the spinal misalignment. Our doctors will make adjustments to the cervical spine where needed. In addition to coming in for adjustments, it is recommended that patients with migraines stay away from sugars, especially white refined sugar. Limiting the amount of caffeine intake (for example: too much coffee, soda, and tea) can also help to reduce headache symptoms. Other dietary changes may be recommending depending on a patient's particular type of headache.

Asthma

Asthma is a very common chronic disease involving the respiratory system in which the airways constrict, become inflamed, and are lined with excessive amounts of mucus. It causes symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, and chest tightness.

Our doctors will discuss the details of your condition as well as examine you to determine your area of spinal misalignment. This involves examining the problem areas by motion palpation for misalignment to assess for tender areas and lack of motion. In cases where there is nerve irritation in the thoracic region, the patient may experience pain radiation to the anterior body.

Spinal manipulation to the thoracic spine has been shown to decrease asthma symptoms and boost the immune system.

Bed-wetting

Bed-wetting is loss of involuntary control of the bladder. Several children have been seen in our office for this particular problem.

Typically patient's suffering from bed wetting present with misalignment in the area of the sacrum or tailbone. Patients who are adjusted in these areas have demonstrated improvement with less frequent episodes of bed wetting to never bed wetting again.

Our doctors also treat babies with Colic and offer care for patients with Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis.

  • "Dr. Mark is great. He has helped me twice with a pinched nerve. Last year I was in so much pain I could barely walk. He takes the time to explain the treatment. Everybody in the office are very friendly and helpful. Always enjoy discussing Purdue and the Illini. Love the Illini Treatment Room!"
